Maxwell Golden is an artist working in hip hop theatre, verse drama and musical comedy. He has performed everywhere from street corners to the Royal Festival hall and is an Associate Artist at The Albany in Deptford and part of the Writer’s Hub at Soho Theatre. In 2007 he was selected by Nitin Sawhney as part of Aftershock, which led to 18 months as an Emerging Artist in Residence at the Southbank Centre His music has featured on Radio 1 and 1Xtra and released on ITM:DTN, Bassbin, Critical and NLT. He is a Slam Poetry Champion, Battlescars finalist, trained Fool (NAF), and experienced Playback Theatre practitioner. Theatrical credits include Essence (Birmingham Rep), The Sun & The Moon (Southbank Centre), Everything Must Go (Soho Theatre), Emergence alongside Ed Sheeran (Lyrix Organix), East London West Sydney (ICE / British Council/ Sydney Festival), Markus the Sadist (Jonzi D Productions) and Riz MC’s MICroscope (Sadler’s Wells). In 2011 he toured extensively with comedy hip hop act Abandoman (Udderbelly, Glastonbury, Edinburgh, V Festival, Hop Farm). His current solo CountryBoy’s Struggle (Contact Theatre) toured the UK in 2011 and has been selected for Arts Council England / BBC’s The Space and will be running at The Pleasance 2 for the Edinburgh Festival 2012.
